ALBANY
GEORGE STREET HOT ROD TRACK
The inception of Hot Rod racing first occurred in 1962 with a meeting of a few locals in the Bailey family kitchen, but it was not until May 1965 that the Albany Hot Rod Club was formed after another meeting of about 25 locals in John Manley's wrecking yard.
At this point Albany did not have a race track but many Hot Rods were under construction.
In September 1966 the Club held their first race meeting at the George Street track. This track was triangular in shape on undulating ground and the Club raced at this site until it closed when the council needed the land for other purposes.
BAKERS JUNCTION HOT ROD TRACK
With the closing of George Street the Club relocated to Bakers Junction where they ran for several years but went into recess in 1969.
HANRAHAN ROAD
Jack Rowe started to build this track but it was only ever roughly dug out and never used, it is now the site of the refuse dump.
MOTOR DROME COMPLEX
A rift in the club in the early seventies saw the present Reddale Road site begin construction at the same time as a group of mainly Solo supporters, led by Trevor (Ghosty) Harding and Alan Tarbottom, started the Motor Drome Complex near the airport.
Practice runs were held at the track until Tarbottom and Harding left town for employment reasons and the track closed.
